Course fees and invoicing

Please note that if the course has already started, discounts can no longer be granted.

Full-time unemployed, full-time student (not in gainful employment) and pensioner receiving a pension of no more than 1000 euros (gross) per month

• You will receive a 40% discount on five courses over 40 euros during the academic year. To receive the discount, you must present a certificate of unemployment, a student card or a reliable document proving the amount of your pension (e.g. a Kela pension certificate of paid pension) by coming to the office during office opening hours before the start of each course. The discount cannot be used for individual tuition, pair tuition or small group tuition, only for group tuition.

Voucher courses

The Finnish National Board of Education grants a study voucher for liberal arts work to support learning for special groups. You can identify the courses by the study voucher course marking. Study voucher courses are designed for those covered by the grant and have specific benefits for people in the target groups.
The price has already been reduced. Course fees for educational activities aimed at people with intellectual disabilities are reduced through a grant.

Applying for a student voucher discount

A 50% tuition voucher discount for one group course during the academic year can be applied for by registering. 00100 Study voucher queue for the courseWhen registering, answer the question about which course you are applying for a grant for and register for that course as well. Grants will be awarded in the order of registration as long as there are grants remaining.
Proof of entitlement to a student voucher must be provided upon request.
A student voucher discount can be obtained upon request by a resident of the city of Riihimäki (over 16 years of age) who is:
Immigrantwho has a municipality of residence in Finland as referred to in the Municipality of Residence Act (201/1994) and who is not entitled to an integration plan. Asylum seekers do not belong to this group.
Unemployed, who is available for full-time work or is waiting to start an agreed job. A person who has been laid off for a long period of time may also be considered unemployed.
A person who has no post-basic education and is not subject to compulsory education.

The holder of the Kaikukortti can participate in one group course or lecture free of charge during the academic year. The Kaikukortti cannot be used for individual, pair or small group teaching. The Kaikukortti is personal. After registering, please report the Kaikukortti to the college office at kansalaisopisto@riihimaki.fi. Tell us your name and the Kaikukortti number (even with a photo). Information about the Kaikukortti must be submitted before the start of the course. Other discounts cannot be applied for if you get a free course with the Kaikukortti. The Kansalaisopisto has a limited number of Kaikukortti to use.

Kaikukortti is a personal payment method and cannot be used to pay for another person's course. If you, as the cardholder, are participating in a parent-child joint course at Riihimäki Community College with a child or grandchild under the age of 16, you can pay for the course fee with Kaikukortti.

You can pay for the course with Epass, Smartum and Edenred for 7 days from the start date of the course, except for language and home economics courses and material purchases. If you have not used these payment methods within 7 days of the start of the course, we will send you a paper invoice.

After invoicing the course, other means of payment are no longer taken into account.

Epassi, Smartum and Edenred are personal payment methods, you can only pay for your own courses with them. When paying with Edenred mobile payment, add your name and course number in the additional information field.

We cannot refund benefits paid with Smartum, Epassi and Edenred, but instead of a refund, the payment can be transferred to another course during the same academic year.

Release: Smartum and Edenred banknotes will no longer be used.
The acceptance and settlement of Smartum sports and culture vouchers and lunch vouchers has ended on February 2, 2026.
Smartum vouchers are no longer accepted as a means of payment. All Smartum paper banknotes have expired on December 31, 2025, and no valid paper banknotes exist anymore. Edenred's paper Lunch and Refreshment Vouchers will be discontinued on June 11, 2026. After this date, we will no longer accept Edenred paper notes as a means of payment.
Digital Smartum and Edenred payment methods will work normally.

Registration is binding. If you are unable to participate in the course, the cancellation must be made in writing no later than seven days before the course's start date, to the address kansalaisopisto@riihimaki.fi. A cancellation made to the teacher is not enough, and teachers do not receive cancellation notifications.

Not paying for the course or not coming to the course is not a cancellation. If the registration has not been canceled in writing by the last cancellation date, the entire course fee will be invoiced.

We do not have free trials.

The student does not have to report individual absences to the office.
