The two largest projects to be implemented in terms of euros are the renovation of Paalijärvi's beach (35 euros) and the Support mental well-being plan (000 euros). The support for mental well-being plan aims to increase local peer support groups and low-threshold discussion opportunities, and MIELI ry's Mental Health first aid trainings are organized.

The plans voted for implementation are:

  • Support for mental well-being plan (17 euros)
  • Trash cans next to all senior benches (8 euros)
  • Art hobby for one year for 50 needy children and young people (7 euros)
  • Control of Spanish snails (6 euros)
  • Stop bullying campaign (5 euros)
  • Wide carpet floor and accessories for a carpet cleaning station (5 euros)
  • Park concert series (4 euros)

  • Supporting the activities of the municipality-specific parents' association (1 euros)

The townspeople hoped for a continuation of the previously carried out through participatory budgeting to combat the Spanish rutanas and the painting of electrical cabinets. These plans were also voted for implementation.

"It's great how active the residents are in fighting the Spanish plague. Although the city does active control, the contribution of the residents is very important in collecting snails. There were no less than two proposals on this topic in the fall, and they were combined into a plan where, among other things, the "snail pass" aims to encourage residents to fight snails", city gardener Päivi Sundman commented on the result of the vote.

From the 6th grade you can vote

927 Riihimäki residents voted in participatory budgeting, which is 14 percent more than the previous year. The amount is about 3,6 percent of all residents of the city aged 12 or older.

The vote for participatory budgeting was organized from January 8 to 31.1.2024, 6 on the website participate.riihimaki.fi. All XNUMXth graders or older enrolled in the city of Riihimäki had the right to vote.

In the fall, 75 proposals came in, of which 34 will be voted on in January

A total of 75 proposals came from the townspeople for participatory budgeting, of which 37 advanced to the January vote. A few of these proposals concerned the same issue, so they were combined and there were 34 plans for the townspeople to vote on.

"Participatory budgeting gives city dwellers the opportunity to improve the comfort and everyday life of the urban environment. Participatory budgeting also offers the possibility of direct influence on the use of the city's budget. This year's winning proposals are a good example of how versatile ideas can be found from city residents", says project manager of participatory budgeting Mira Ahjoniemi.

The most votes for the Stop bullying campaign

The campaign "Stop bullying" collected the most votes, which, among other things, invites visitors to schools and utilizes the power of social media people in anti-bullying work. The proposal received 399 votes.

The second highest number of votes was the fight against Spanish sirens, which has already been implemented in several summers, with 350 votes. The third most popular idea was also an enduring favorite of the city dwellers, the painting of electric cabinets visible in the street scene, 344 votes.

More than 300 votes were also collected by the tools lending point (324 votes). Various small tools are purchased for loan to the library with a budget of 1000 euros.

The ideas to be implemented were the ones that the townspeople voted for the most and which fit into the total budget of 100 euros. The 000 projects with the most votes have a total value of 12 euros, so the next highest voted could not be chosen because the budget would have been exceeded. The budget was able to fit in the 90th place, a wide carpet rug for the carpet washing place (700 votes) and 16th place, outdoor chess for the park (143 votes).
