RakasRiksu2035 strategy draft for presentation and comment round

The draft strategy for the city of Riihimäki until 2035 is ready. City residents, decision-makers, entrepreneurs and city personnel will be able to comment on the draft RakasRiksu2035 strategy during January and February. The draft defines the city's vision, values ​​and goals.

"We wanted the vision to be bold, ambitious and attention-grabbing. By 2035, Riihimäki will be the bravest small town in the Solar System. In order to achieve our goal, we must succeed in three things: Riihimäki must be a pleasant city in the future, a center of future competence and a community of sustainable growth. In addition, the population must grow by 0,2 percent annually," says city manager Jere Penttilä.

The draft strategy has been prepared in cooperation with decision-makers, residents, personnel and other stakeholders. As a basis for the strategy work, extensive background and comparison material was collected for the evaluation of the current situation. Citizens and other stakeholders were involved during the spring, summer and autumn of 2021. You could participate in the strategy work, for example, by answering surveys and interviews and participating in stakeholder meetings. "Next, the draft strategy will go to a wide round of opinions. In addition to the decision-makers, I hope that the citizens will familiarize themselves with the draft and comment on it. All thoughts are important and welcome," says Penttilä.

• The mayor presents the draft strategy to the citizens in a Teams online event on Tuesday, January 25 from 18 p.m
• In addition, the city organizes its own event for entrepreneurs, where the draft strategy is presented. Entrepreneurs receive their own invitation to the event.
• The Social and Health Board, the Education and Skills Board, the Technical Board and the Vitality Board will review and take a position on the draft in January.
• The city's development committee and staff will review and comment on the draft in January.

The steering group, which consists of city decision-makers and officials, processes and takes into account the comments and statements before the strategy proceeds to decision-making. The city council will discuss the strategy proposal on February 28.2. and the city council 7.3.

The preparation of the RakasRiksu2035 strategy started at the beginning of 2021. According to the Municipalities Act, the municipality must have a municipal strategy, in which the council decides on the long-term goals of the municipality's operation and economy. The strategy guides the city's operations and outlines the important issues for the success of the municipality. The strategy is approved by the city council.
