Remembering new residents and babies

Every year, the city of Riihimäki remembers both new residents and babies born during the year. The city sends new residents a letter and an invitation to a welcome event. In addition to the letter, babies receive a toy.

New residents

The city sends a welcome letter to all new residents. Letters are sent throughout the year.

The mayor's welcome letter includes an invitation to the new residents' event. New residents' events are organized twice a year, in spring and autumn. The city presents its services at the welcome events. Due to the catering, advance registration is required for the welcome event.

The city retrieves information about new residents from the Digital and Population Data Agency's system. If you have blocked the disclosure of your own information, we will not be able to send you an invitation.

With the letter and the event, the city wants to welcome new residents and introduce the city's diverse services. Riihimäki is a large small town with extensive and diverse cultural and sports services. In Riihimäki, robotics lessons are offered to every comprehensive school student. In the densely built city of fifteen, services are a short walk or bike ride away.

Approximately 1500 new residents move to Riihimäki every year.

Baby gift

In addition to a letter from the mayor, babies in Riihimäki receive a gift at their first prenatal visit. Since autumn 2025, the gift has been a teething toy in the shape of the letter R. The toy helps relieve the baby's itching and pain in the gums when teething.

The chew toy is long-lasting and its shape reminds you of a city. The chew toy is made of hygienic, food-grade silicone. The toy can be cleaned by boiling it in plenty of water for five minutes.

With the baby gift, the city wants to convey that children and families with children are an important part of the city and its future. An average of 170 children have been born in Riihimäki in recent years.
