Riihimäki sweater

The Riihimäki sweater received an honorable mention in the Riihimäki City Knitwear Design Competition. The Riihimäki sweater was designed by Leena Salminen. The yarns used in the original sweater are Drops Nepal 0506 dark grey, 0500 light grey, 2920 orange, which give the sweater its characteristic look and structure.

The City of Riihimäki commissioned knitting instructions in collaboration with Willamagia so that as many people as possible could knit their own version of this wonderful shirt. A few carefully considered changes have been made to the instructions:

  • The patterns have been modified slightly to better fit the serialized pattern.
  • The yarn selection has been simplified: the pattern is designed for thinner yarn, so that the yarn is more easily available in local stores and the knitting is suitable for a wide range of uses.

The modifications have been made with respect for the original pattern. The goal has been to preserve the spirit and aesthetics of Leena's design, while at the same time providing a practical and accessible guide for all knitters.
