RiiCycle STATEMENT – Circular economy business ecosystem in Riihimäki

The RiiCycle KIRITYS project aims to build a strong circular economy ecosystem in Riihimäki. The ecosystem connects local, national and international actors. The project increases the attractiveness of the area, creates new jobs, attracts investments and strengthens business ecosystems.

The project maps the key players and growth potential of the circular economy and compiles a common circular economy vision and roadmap for the Riihimäki region until 2035. The work is based on close cooperation between companies, educational institutions, the city and other stakeholders.

Project results

Project work packages

  • Work package 1: Situation overview and benchmarks – company interviews, national and international learning trips, meta-analyses and RDI preparations.
  • Work package 2: Ecosystem model and roadmap – stakeholder workshops, selection of technologies and material flows, exploration of industrial symbioses and mapping of training needs.
  • Work package 3: Visible and attractive ecosystem – common identity and logo, events, pilots and circular economy hackathon.

Project duration and funding

Duration: May 2025–April 2026 (12 months).
Funding: Häme County Council, Allocation for supporting sustainable growth and vitality of regions (AKKE).
Main implementer: City of Riihimäki (technology and innovations area of ​​responsibility).
Sub-implementers: Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), Finnish Environmental Institute Sykli.
