The summer jobs in the city of Riihimäki in summer 2026 are intended for young people born in 2007–2010.
Summer jobs can be applied for via the kuntarekry.fi website from 1 to 28 February 2026. At the same time, the city's summer jobs, 12 different positions, can be seen on this page.
Young people from Riihimäki who have not had a summer job in the city of Riihimäki before are given priority in the selection process.
The duration of the work is four weeks (20 working days), shorter periods are not possible, nor is schooling/studying at the same time as the summer job. The person selected for the summer job must commit to the work for the entire period.
A summer worker's salary for four weeks is approximately 960 euros. A statutory pension contribution is deducted from the salary of those over 17 years of age.
The selection decision will be sent to all applicants by email at the end of April or beginning of May. The decision will include the names of those selected for the position and their replacements. The email will also include instructions on how to accept the summer job.
If the person selected for the job does not accept the position, the next available candidate will be contacted.
In February, you will find links to 12 different summer job positions on this page. You can apply for multiple positions, but you can only be selected for one summer job offered by the city (or use one summer job subsidy) during one summer.
Log in to the Kuntarekry.fi website as a user and fill out the form carefully in your own words. If necessary, you can ask for help filling out the application from employment services, tel. 040 645 3206
The questions on the application form are answered both by writing and by selecting from the options provided. Answering some questions is mandatory. No attachments may be added to the application.
The most important thing is to tell the employer about yourself and your skills in a way that gives them an idea of what kind of person you are. You don't have to be an expert in the field, and it doesn't matter if you've never done similar work. All you need is to be motivated to work and enthusiastic about learning!
Interviews will be held in March, either traditionally face-to-face or by phone or in teams, either as a group interview or an individual interview. If the summer job advertisement you are applying for mentions "interviews", monitor your email and answer calls especially during March to ensure that a possible interview invitation reaches you.
Not all summer jobs organize interviews, but you can also be selected for the position based on an application. Those invited to an interview are also selected based on applications. Therefore, it is particularly important that you fill out the application carefully and tell us about yourself in your own words.
The length of summer work is usually 4 weeks, or 28 days, of which 20 are working days.
The exception is three summer jobs for young people in park duties, which last 3 months.
As a summer employee, you are committed to working for the entire period. Periods cannot be shortened or hours can be made up in advance/afterwards.
An exception is, for example, school entrance exam days, during which it is possible to get unpaid leave. Remember to agree on the days off needed for entrance exams with your supervisor well in advance.
It is not possible to complete studies or attend school at the same time as summer work. The city also cannot arrange an apprenticeship for a summer worker during the summer work, because employees do not have the opportunity to supervise apprentices during the summer.
Daily working hours vary slightly depending on the job. The most common work hours are around 6 hours and 30 minutes per day.
Meal breaks are determined by the work unit's practices, working hours, and the collective agreement to be followed, and will be explained in more detail on the first day of work.
The supervisors of the work units make selection decisions based on applications and/or interviews. The applicant can only get one summer job or summer job support during the summer.
All applicants will be notified by email in late April or early May about who has been selected as a summer employee. The email attachment contains the names of all those selected and those selected for a reserve position. If your name is on the list, you have been selected as either a summer employee or a reserve position.
In addition to the selection decision, the selected individuals will be sent instructions on how to accept the summer job. If the selected individual does not accept the position within the specified time, a summer employee will be called from the reserve position.
At the end of April and the beginning of May, it is important to monitor emails (including spam), phone calls, and text messages so that you do not miss the information about the selection.
It is also worth checking that the phone number you provided on the Kuntarekry.fi website is spelled correctly and that the email address can still reach you during the summer (do not use your school email address).
If the person selected as a summer employee cannot be contacted within the given time, the job will be given to the reserve candidate.
Regardless of the job, the salary of all summer workers for the summer period is approximately 960 euros. A statutory pension contribution is deducted from the salary of those aged 17 or over.
Your payday is the last business day of the month. If your employment spans two months, you will receive your salary in two parts, on the last weekdays of both months.
