The City of Riihimäki has initiated the preparation of a master plan and planning principles for the city center. In the work, the city is considering the future of the city center area from many different perspectives: mobility, comfortable urban spaces, services, the vitality of the city center, and culture and events.
Upon completion, the work will guide more detailed land use planning, such as changes to the city plan and the preparation of street and park plans in the city center area. This is multidisciplinary work that combines different areas of planning.
The project has so far organized the first workshops, inviting city residents of different ages, stakeholders and decision-makers. The stakeholders invited included entrepreneurs, property owners and cultural actors. Later in the project, in the fall of 2026, a workshop open to everyone will be organized. Follow the city's communications for more detailed information in the fall.
The city center's master plan and design principles are being prepared by the architectural firm INARO, in partnership with Kaskas Media, Finnmap Infra and Realidea. The work is being carried out under the guidance of the city. The project is expected to be completed for decision by the city council in February 2027.
