The Veturi Office Building (KOY Riihimäen Yritystalo) has been placed under a ban on use from Friday, May 8, 2026 at 4 p.m. The Building Control Manager will make a decision on the matter on Monday, May 11, 2026. The Veturi Office Building is located at Eteläinen Asemakatu 16.

A ban on use means that the building may not be used until the necessary additional investigations have been completed and a decision has been made to lift the ban. Access to the building is blocked.

The property owner, KOY Riihimäen Yritystalo, has communicated and instructed everyone working in the building about the matter. In addition to city services, the building also houses services from Oma Hämeen and private operators.

The organization of services is being investigated.

The city is urgently determining where the city employees and services working in Veturi will move to. For now, the service is available electronically or by phone. The remote service applies to the following city services:

Planning, land use, environmental protection, building control, employment services and duplicating plant.
Business services of South Häme Employment Services.

International House Riihimäki, or Kotola, clients are currently served at the South Häme employment area office, at Temppelikatu 2. The office is open weekdays from 9 am to 15 pm. If you have an appointment scheduled in Kotola, your advisor will contact you personally.

Ground subsidence detected in measurements

The ban on use is based on the results of measurements taken on Friday, May 8. According to the measurements, there is evidence of ground subsidence and movement in the foundation piles next to the Veturi building. Subsidence monitoring has been carried out in the area throughout the construction and excavation work at Jokikylä.

The depression and pile movements are likely due to work being done on the plot next to the Veturi Office. The city is building a new residential area in Jokikylä.

The structural designer of KOY Riihimäen Yritystalo has issued a warning about the structural risk of the foundations and thus an assessment of the deterioration of the operational safety of the building. The city and KOY Riihimäen Yritystalo are monitoring and assessing the stability of the building on a daily basis.

The building known as the Veturi Office Centre is owned by KOY Riihimäen Yritystalo. The building was built in 1988 for the city's businesses. Today, the building mainly houses the city's and Oma Häme's operations.

The city has already decided that city employees will gradually move from the building to the Travel Center. In April 2026, personnel from the education and welfare sector moved from Veturi to the Travel Center. In the fall of 2026, the remaining city employees working in Veturi will move.
