Relocating the Vantaanjoki riverbed in Jokikylä starts with pipe and wire transfers

The transfer of the Vantaanjoki riverbed to a new location according to the Jokikylä scheme begins with pipe and wire transfers and the cleaning of contaminated land.

During autumn 2023, Riihimäen Kaukolämpö Oy and Riihimäen Vesi will start pipe and cable relocation works in the area of ​​Jokikylä and Eteläinen Asemakatu. Pipeline and cable relocation works in the fall will cause inconvenience to traffic on Eteläinen Asemakatu, i.e. around the Matkakeskus (Eteläinen Asemakatu 2) and the office center Veturi (Eteläinen Asemakatu 4).

The construction of the new district heating line has started in the direction of Siltakattu at the end of August. Vesihuolto's relocation plans are being completed in the first half of September.

Riihimäki Vesi and Riihimäki Kaukolämpö have to be excavated partly in the same places, but due to lack of space and technical reasons, the work cannot be done at the same time.

The city of Riihimäki has commissioned a research survey in Jokikylä, which found out if there are contaminated lands in the area. The investigations have found a few sites in the area of ​​which garbage cleaning and mass replacement will be carried out. The plans for the works related to the contaminated lands will be completed in September, and the works according to the plans will tentatively start in November 2023.

The transfer of the bed will start next summer

According to the preliminary schedule, the construction plans for Jokikylä's public areas and the transfer of Vantaanjoki will be completed by April 1.4.2024, 2024. The bed itself is supposed to be moved during the summer of XNUMX.

According to Jokikylä's new plan, the Vantaanjoki riverbed will be moved to a central location for Jokikylä's future residential area. In the first phase, the embankments of the future new bed are reinforced before the new bed is dug. The new bed is dug dry so that the connection to the old bed remains closed for as long as possible. This way, the work can be done without the harm caused by flowing water. After the excavation and reinforcement work of the new bed, the water of the Vantaanjoki River will be directed to flow in a controlled manner in the new bed, after which the work on the old bed will begin.

The old bed is cleaned and cleaned for construction. Silty sediment and possible spoiled materials are removed from the old bed. After this, the part of the old bed is filled with soil for future construction.

A public park area around the riverbed

The residential area of ​​Jokikylä and the park to be built along the riverbed is one of the new residential areas in Riihimäki according to the general plan of the station area. The goal is to create a high-quality and cityscape-interesting residential area within walking distance of the train station in the Jokikylä area. The central role will be played by the Vantaanjoki, which will be moved to the middle of the residential area, and the public park area formed around the riverbed.
