Several people fell ill with stomach illness at a primary school handball event at Cocks Arena in Riihimäki

Several people have fallen ill with stomach flu at a school handball event held at the Cocks Areena in Riihimäki from 26 to 29 January 2026. The sick people have been known to have fallen ill since the beginning of the event on 26–27 January. The symptoms of the sick people have been vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain.

The symptoms of the sick people are consistent with norovirus, which is currently circulating widely. Norovirus is highly contagious from person to person and through surfaces. Since the sick people did not eat the same foods, foodborne illness is not suspected.

Treatment for norovirus infection is symptomatic. In addition, good hand hygiene should be followed. If necessary, you can seek medical care.
