The Riihimäki Sports Hall sports hall will return to normal use from Monday, October 26, 2026. As a result, the regular application for sports clubs to use the sports hall for the 2026–2027 season will open on Monday, September 14. The application period will continue until Sunday, September 27. Clubs can learn how to apply for regular shifts on the Regular Shifts page.

The sports hall of the Sports Center has been out of use since the summer of 2025 due to damage detected in the hall's roof structures. The ban on use has led, among other things, to the replacement of the sports facilities of several sports clubs and the adjacent Pohjolanrinne Junior High School.

Pohjolanrinne middle school students will also be able to return to physical education classes at the Sports Hall starting October 26. During the ban on using the hall, physical education classes for schoolchildren have been organized, among other things, outdoors, at Cocks Areena and in the swimming pool.

A rare renovation project

The roof structure repair project has been a technically demanding project. Repair work related to load-bearing roof structures is relatively rare nationwide, which has affected the planning and implementation schedule of the work.

The total cost of the roof repairs will be approximately 800,000 euros. The costs will be divided between 2025 and 2026.

The energy efficiency of the hall will improve

The Sports Hall was temporarily opened in June for visitors to the Wilderness Fair. At that time, the ceiling beams had been repaired. After the fair, the renovation of the Sports Hall has continued with the renewal of the building's lighting and the construction of a suspended ceiling. The hall is now illuminated by energy-efficient LED lamps.

The original plan was to replace the hall's lighting in 2027. After the hall was renovated, it turned out to be cost-effective to replace the lighting at the same time as the roof repair.
