Repairs to the roof structures of the sports hall continue – the sports hall is in use at the Wilderness Fair

Due to damage to the roof structures of the Riihimäki Sports Hall sports hall, repairs are being carried out in stages. The work has required dismantling, examining and protecting the structures, which has affected the use of the premises. However, the sports hall will be made available for use for the Wilderness Fair through temporary arrangements. The arrangements will pay special attention to the safety of fair visitors. The use of the premises during the fair is based on a partial final inspection approved by the building inspectorate and safety assessments made.

Crack damage was detected in the load-bearing glulam beam of the sports hall's roof in the summer of 2025. The technical condition of the other ceiling beams in the sports hall was also surveyed during the autumn of 2025 and spring of 2026. The repair and improvement work on the beams began at the end of 2025 and the work has continued in the spring of 2026.

A partial final inspection by building supervision was carried out at the sports hall on 25 May 2026. This means that the space can be put into use during the Wilderness Fair. Repair and improvement work on the ceiling beams of the sports hall space at the Sports Hall will continue after the Wilderness Fair.

The repair is technically demanding.

The renovation project is a technically demanding project. Repair work related to load-bearing roof structures is relatively rare nationwide, which affects the planning and implementation schedules of the work. Structural studies, design and implementation are carried out in several stages with safety as a priority.

The schedule for the sports hall's commissioning will be finalized during the summer.

After the fair ends, the construction site will be re-established, and the repair and improvement work on the roof beams will continue as planned.

The schedule for the final commissioning of the sports hall will be finalized during the summer of 2026. When the commissioning date is confirmed, a separate standard shift application will be opened for the Sports Hall sports hall, which will be announced separately.
