The Environmental Health Department of South Häme announces that the water quality at the Harviala swimming area in Janakkala once again meets the required standards. The previous recommendation to avoid swimming is no longer valid.

Samples taken from the Harviala swimming area on July 9, 2025, showed E. coli bacteria levels exceeding the maximum allowed limit. As a precaution, swimming was advised to be avoided until the results of the follow-up testing became available.

However, follow-up samples taken on Friday, July 11, confirmed that the water quality had returned to acceptable levels, so swimming is permitted again.

Swimming waters are monitored regularly

The Environmental Health Department of South Häme monitors the water quality of the public beaches of Forssa, Hausjärvi, Humppila, Janakkala, Jokioinen, Loppi, Riihimäki, Tammela and Ypäjä during the swimming season from June 15 to August 31. There are a total of 46 public beaches in these municipalities.

The latest water samples were taken in week 28. The completed test results are available for viewing on the website of the city of Riihimäki. The test results are also delivered to swimming beaches.
