Beach services have deteriorated – the Hirvijärvi barbecue hut and the Paalijärvi lean-to have burned down

The fire pits at the Riihimäki beaches are out of use. Both the Hirvijärvi and Paalijärvi fire pits burned down in August 2026.

The barbecue hut (Jänissaarentie 40, Riihimäki) serving as a fire pit in Hirvijärvi burned down in early August. According to Sports Director Markus Rants, the fire was the result of user error. It was an accident, not intentional.

A fire was discovered at the Paalijärvi lean-to (Veljesmajantie 30) this week. The police have been notified of the destruction of the lean-to. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.

The city reminds that the use of open fire requires care even at official fire pits. Special caution should be exercised when using fire. Fire-makers must also check the warnings in force when operating at official fire pits before lighting, keep water nearby for possible extinguishing, and monitor the fire.

The lean-to at the Paalijärvi beach was built with participatory budgeting funding in 2024.
