The plans for the general areas of Jokikylä, i.e. Jokipuisto, Kanavakatu and the northern part of the square, have been completed. The plans are now available for viewing  On the Jokikylä planning and construction website.

The city will organize a presentation of the draft plans as a Teams meeting on Monday 19.2. from 18.00:XNUMX. Click here to join the meeting.

During the visit (February 9–25.2), the citizens of the city can give feedback on the plans to the registry office at the address kirjaamo@riihimaki.fi.

A new residential area near the train station

The Jokikylä area with its parks is one of the new residential areas according to the general plan of the Riihimäki station area. The goal is to create a high-quality, comfortable and cityscape-interesting area in the Jokikylä area within walking distance of the train station.

The Vantaan River flows through Jokipuisto

The Vantaanjoki will run through the new Jokipuisto. The goal of moving the river bed is also to restore it to a more natural and meandering bed as part of a green environment.

The areas of the riverbanks and the park have been designed to be diverse in terms of biodiversity and as a comfortable living room for the residents, where accessibility, different user groups, ecology and naturalness have been taken into account, for example through planting, covering and material choices.

The square acts as a gate to the park

The square planned for the northern part of the area acts as a gateway to the park. The square is partly on the ground, the rest of the area is implemented as a deck structure. The deck structure extends over the stormwater basin. Stormwater management solutions are based on the Vantaanjoki master plan, based on which the project has been granted a water permit.

Barrier-free play and exercise place

An accessible playground and exercise area will be built on the south side of the Kanavakatu bridge. The surface material of the area will be an ecological safety platform. The area is fenced.

The furniture and equipment of a barrier-free playground take into account the different needs of the users, the use of aids, sufficient space reservations for movement and places to rest. Among other things, water play equipment, exercise equipment and play activities for users of different levels will be placed in the area. Shade trees will also be planted on the playground and benches will be built under the trees.

The park as a whole is connected to Kanavakatu, which cuts through the area.

Kanavakatu crosses Vantaanjoki

The goal of the Kanavakatu street plan is to enable a street in accordance with the site plan to Jokikylä. Kanavakatu crosses the Vantaanjoki shown in the plan. The bridge crossing the river is a wooden-covered combined overpass for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. Kanavakatu is functionally classified as a courtyard street.

The comfort of the street and the diversity of the urban environment are increased with biofiltration basins, which function as part of the street's stormwater system. Biofiltration ponds are planted with dynamic vegetation suitable for the site, i.e. layered and multispecies vegetation that tolerates the changing conditions of the built environment.

A special level of accessibility is observed on Kanavakatu. An accessible route runs from the bus stop to the front of the Kanavakatu bridge, from which the route
continues to the northern part of Jokikylä park. The route is implemented as a stripe of two dice, the color tone of which is different from the rest of the surface material.

The preliminary construction of Jokikylä is underway. The target date for the start of construction of the riverbed and park is autumn 2024.
