The City of Riihimäki is starting to prepare a master plan for the historic Rautatienpuisto area. The Rautatienpuisto is located next to Riihimäki Railway Station. The planning area also includes the courtyard of Anton's House, the development of which is being considered as part of the whole. The goal is to develop the area into a pleasant recreation and meeting place, where the history of the area and current needs are intertwined.

At the beginning of Riihimäki

The first buildings in the Railway Park served as housing for railway builders. After that, the area served as a residential area for railway workers. The oldest surviving building is the master builder's house from 1857. Anton's House at Öllerinkatu 3 was completed in 1858 as a civil service building. Anton's House is the former city museum building, currently the city's cultural and community space. The building complex in the Railway Park was protected due to its cultural and historical value in 1993.

Significant urban nature area

The Railway Park is also a significant urban nature area. Old trees, diverse vegetation and fauna create a pleasant environment for both humans and many species of nature. The master plan takes into account the valuable history of the area and its ecological characteristics.

Join us for a walk in the park or answer the survey

The planning work will be launched with an open park walk on Tuesday, September 30 at 17 p.m. The park walk will present the current state of the area, the starting points for the planning, and collect the views of the participants. The start will be in the courtyard of Anton's house.

Residents also have the opportunity to express their opinions and development suggestions online. A participatory survey has been opened on the Maptionnaire platform and can be answered until October 15th. Go here to the survey.

All residents of Riihimäki and those interested in the area are warmly welcome to participate in the planning.
