Winter timetables come into effect on August 12th – changes to public transport routes and tickets

Riihimäki's public transport winter timetables will come into effect on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. With the winter season, there will be changes to the routes and timetables of several lines. In addition, children's and youth season tickets will be renewed and the PayiQ Tickets mobile ticket application will be discontinued.

The changes aim to improve the punctuality, traffic safety and service level of public transport.

Changes to routes and schedules

All lines will no longer run via Väinö Sinisalo Street and Hj. Elomaan Street. In the future, the lines will run along Siltakatu and Eteläinen Asemakatu. The change will make it easier to stay on schedule.

All lines will also no longer use Sipusaarentie as their route. Instead, the lines will use Ilomäentie as their route, with additional stops also being added in the south direction. The change will make it easier to stay on schedule and improve traffic safety.

Line 3

A stop at Pohjankorvi will be added to the route of line 3 on all departures. In addition, the line will start running via Hämeenaukio and Eteläinen School. At the same time, the schedule of the entire line will change by five minutes.

During peak hours, line 3 will be operated with two cars.

Line 4

The afternoon equalization times of line 4 will be moved from the Kara school stop to the stop at the western end of Kalevankatu. The bus will not depart from the stop before the scheduled equalization time.

Line 7

Line 7 will no longer run to Peltosaari. Instead, the line will start running to Vasikkahaka. The route towards Metsäkorvi will also change slightly.

Line 9

Line 9 will cease operations completely. The line 9 car will be transferred to line 3 as an additional car, which will allow line 3 to be operated with two cars during peak hours.

Regional buses

The final stop for regional traffic in Riihimäki has changed from the travel center to the stop at Railway Station E (Paloheimonkatu).

Term and academic year tickets for children and young people are being renewed

School and student tickets will be renamed to children's and youth semester and academic year tickets. At the same time, cardboard display tickets will be discontinued and replaced by travel cards.

Anyone aged 7 to 19 can now buy a ticket. The buyer no longer has to be a resident of Riihimäki or a comprehensive school or secondary school student.

A semester or academic year ticket can be purchased either as a mobile ticket using Matkahuolto's Matkat application or as a ticket that can be loaded onto a travel card.

The ticket entitles you to unlimited travel during its validity period on weekdays, weekends, public holidays and vacations. However, the ticket does not entitle you to unnecessary round-trip travel and is not valid for R-rides.

The ticket is personal and cannot be used to pay for other passengers' trips.

The sale of travel cards and redemption of single-use codes for mobile tickets will begin on August 3.8 at the city's customer service point Tietotuva. A child or young person must be accompanied and must present an identity document or Kela card.

In addition to the ticket price, a service fee of 4 euros and a deposit of 7 euros are charged for tickets loaded onto a travel card. The deposit is returned when the travel card is returned.

PayiQ Tickets will be discontinued

The PayiQ Tickets mobile ticketing application has been discontinued. At the same time, the best price ticket, day ticket and the option to pay for travel with your phone bill will also be discontinued.

In the future, mobile tickets will be purchased using Matkahuolto's Matkat app. Tickets in the PayiQ Tickets app can be used within their validity period.
