Art so that you can feel it - a series of four videos presents the basic teaching of art in Riihimäki
The city of Riihimäki has realized and produced together with the director, screenwriter, actor Petteri Summanen a series of four videos about the basic art education in Riihimäki. During the fall, Summanen got to know Riihimäki's cultural actors and realized Art so that you feel it - Riihimäki grows creative young people video series. The videos feature actors from theater, dance, visual arts and music.
"In Riihimäki, children and young people are offered a truly versatile and inspiring art education, considering the size of the city. Art hobby supports well-being and helps to understand the environment. Art is also a way to self-knowledge," says Summanen.
Basic art education is art education given in free time at local art schools. The teaching is goal-oriented, tied to the national curriculum and given by professionals trained in the field. In Riihimäki, there are about a couple of thousand townspeople enrolled in basic art education. Basic art education is primarily aimed at children and young people, but interest in studying the arts is constantly growing among the adult population as well.
"The effects of cultural well-being extend throughout a person's life cycle. In this video series, we bring out how art activities affect the individual, the children and young people of Riihimäkela", says cultural producer Anna Vésen.
Riihimäki offers basic art education Riihimäki music school, Riihimäki art school, Riihimäki's Youth Theater, Etelä-Häme Tanssiopisto, Dance studio Dance Art ja Studio Dance and Joy.
Basic art education is part of the Finnish education system, and it is regulated in the law and decree on basic art education. In basic art education, you can study according to the general or broad curriculum. At Riihimäki, you can study the general curriculum in fine arts, crafts and dance, and the extensive curriculum in music, dance and theater. Teaching requires a permit and is organized by the city and private teaching organizers with the permission of the city or the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In the video series, the city highlights Riihimäki's high-quality cultural opportunities, highlights the importance and impact of cultural well-being, and presents how culture enables the development of knowledge and skills throughout life.
