For the first time, the city of Riihimäki is offering support to young people aged 18–20 who want to try entrepreneurship during the summer. The pilot involves the city's employment services and experts from Riihimäen Tilat ja kehitys Oy and the South Häme employment area. The young person will receive support from experts for their business idea and entrepreneurship throughout the summer.

A summer entrepreneur is paid a subsidy of 500 euros. The summer entrepreneur subsidy is paid in two installments, 200 euros at the start of the activity and 300 euros at the end of the summer entrepreneurship. The duration of the entrepreneurship is at least four weeks.

"The general employment situation is difficult and, as the lack of summer job opportunities for young people is obvious, this year we also wanted to pilot the much-requested summer entrepreneurship theme. Promoting entrepreneurship is a key vitality measure for the municipality and we want to provide it with both operational and financial support," says the city's employment expert Mika Ågren.

As an entrepreneur, you can, for example, sell products you make or provide a service. You can start a summer business either alone or with a friend. However, the support is paid per company, even if there are several summer entrepreneurs in the company.

The summer entrepreneur is not employed by the city, but operates as an independent entrepreneur, and the support earnings generated in the business are considered ordinary entrepreneurial income.

The city is looking for 3–5 enthusiastic summer entrepreneurs from Riihimäki. The application opens on April 22, 2026. Before that, you must attend the information session on Thursday, April 9.4 (Riihimäki Business Park), Wednesday, April 15.4 (Teams) or Tuesday, April 21.4 (Riihimäki Business Park). The information session will provide you with additional information about starting a business and applying. Register for the information session by email to tyollisyspalvelut@riihimaki.fi or call or text employment specialist Mika Ågren, tel. 050 464 4837.
