We will meet again in senior parks starting June 1st.
The green parks of the city of Riihimäki will once again host Seniors' Meeting Place activities, or Senior Park Activities, every weekday in the summer. The Senior Park Activities season begins on June 1 and ends on July 31, 2026.
"This summer, the Senior Park tradition continues in several of Riihimäki's lush parks. Some changes have been made to the park locations due to renovations and overlapping programs, but the familiar and warm-hearted activities continue unchanged. On the other hand, we are pleased that the change will allow us to try out new and desirable park destinations," says Jemina Salonen, operations manager for open senior activities at the City of Riihimäki.
The city supports the activity of the elderly
The Senior Parks program offers guided, relaxed and refreshing time together with changing themes in local parks around the city. Participation in park activities is free of charge and does not require advance registration. Coffee and buns are available. Join us whenever it suits you. Both new and familiar faces from previous years are warmly welcome.
Park operations are subject to weather conditions.
The goal of senior park walking is to support the activity of the elderly, reduce loneliness, and strengthen community spirit.
Last year's new park attraction, Anton's House Yard, became the most popular park of the summer and will serve as the meeting place for Monday afternoons this year. In case of rain, the activities can be moved indoors at Anton's House.
Park sponsors to support you when you leave
Leaving home alone can be a challenge. Senior Park Volunteers offer support to those who, for one reason or another, cannot leave safely without the help of another person.
"Our goal is to make Senior Park Walking possible for those who find leaving home challenging. Volunteer park chaperones offer one-off or more regular escort assistance. If you feel you need a park chaperone or would like to act as one yourself, feel free to contact us. Together, let's make Senior Park Walking possible for everyone who wants to!", encourages volunteer work coordinator Jemina Salonen.
Midsummer celebration in the yard of Anton's house
The joint midsummer celebration of senior parks will be held on Monday, June 15th in the courtyard of Anton's house. The event promises to be a relaxed gathering and a summery atmosphere.
The senior park walk is organized in cooperation with the open welfare services of the City of Riihimäki and the Kotokartanosääti Foundation.
