Seniors' meeting place activities will start again in the green parks of the city of Riihimäki. This year, Senior Park Fun will be held on weekdays from May 19th until August 15th in eight different parks. The park fun will continue with the usual relaxed atmosphere and varied program, not forgetting the coffee break, with a theme that changes every week. A new feature is the small-scale digital help offered by summer workers for small problems.

Both new and familiar faces from previous years are very warmly welcome to join the activities. The aim of the Senior Park is to support the activity of the elderly, reduce loneliness and promote community. The activities are open to everyone and free of charge.

"Small changes have been made to the park schedule. This summer we will start senior park activities on Thursday mornings in the yard of Antoni's house. This absolutely wonderful, green heart in the central location of Riihimäki will enchant you with its historical atmosphere. With the renovation, we will be leaving out the Riihikivi park location that became familiar last summer, and we hope that those who previously found themselves in Riihikivi park will now find their home in the yard of Antoni's house or, in case of rain, inside Antoni's house," says Mari Friman, director of open senior activities for the City of Riihimäki.

Park sponsors help with departure

Leaving home can sometimes be challenging. Volunteers offer help with this.

“Our goal is to make Senior Park Walking possible for those who find it challenging to leave their homes or who cannot do so safely without the support of another person. Our volunteers can act as park chaperones, offering one-off or regular escort assistance to those in need, as they are able. If you feel you need a park chaperone or would like to act as one, please feel free to contact us. Together, let's make Senior Park Walking possible for everyone who wants to,” encourages Jemina Salonen, the volunteer work director of the City of Riihimäki.

In addition to the traditional Senior Park, the park team will be organizing two events for seniors this coming summer: the Midsummer Celebration on Wednesday, June 18th from 14–16 p.m. and the Summer Season Closing Celebration on Tuesday, August 12th from 14–16 p.m. Both events will be held in the idyllic courtyard of Anton's House.

“The summer events will at least include relaxed togetherness and singing together,” says Maria Harvio, operations director of the Kotokartanosaätiö.

The senior park walk is organized in cooperation with the open senior activities of the City of Rihimäki and the Kotokartanosääti Foundation.
