Riihimäki awards Esa Lehtorinte as athlete of the year

The city of Riihimäki has decided which Riihimäki residents will be awarded as 2023's athletes, background worker and Good Municipal Citizen. The technical board decided on the persons to be awarded at its meeting on Tuesday, February 27.

The sportsman of the year will be awarded to archer Esa Lehtorinne. During 2023, he has won, among other things, the IFAA Indoor World Championship gold in the traditional archery class in England and the World Archery gold in Rovaniemi. The team championships also resulted in several World Cup medals. In addition, Esa won numerous SM medals during the year.

Riihimäki awards the athlete of the year with one thousand euros.

The young athlete of the year is Ossi Niemi

Soccer player Ossi Niemi will be awarded as young athlete of the year. His achievements in 2023 included five appearances in the U16 boys national team, where he also scored one goal. Ossi reached the pros in the ranks of Pallokerho Keski-Uusimaa in the SM final tournament, where he won the goal exchange with five hits. Ossi also represented Riihimäki Kisko in the SM messages.

Background player of the year is Jarmo Orasmaa

The background actor of the year 2023 will be awarded to Jarmo Orasmaa, who became known in boffing, i.e. soft fencing. He has done a lot to move children who are out of reach of physical activities. Jarmo has made children excited and enjoy exercise through an unfamiliar sport.

Riihimäki awards the young athlete of the year and background worker of the year with 500 euros.

The Kunnon Kuntalainen of the Year is Milla Lassila

Milla Lassila, who won gold in July 2023 in the World Championships for short stature held in Germany, will receive the honorable mention of Kunnon Kuntalainen. Milla has shown by her own example that anyone can exercise, even with a goal in mind.
