The city of Riihimäki will raise its flag on Monday, April 20, 2026, in memory and honor of the evacuees. Finnish flags will be raised in the courtyards of schools, daycare centers, and office buildings in Riihimäki, as well as, for example, on the Glassblower statue in the city center.

The second Evacuee Flag Day is celebrated to honor those who have been forced to move from their homes permanently or temporarily lost their homes due to war.

By flying the flag on Evacuees' Day, we highlight the importance of peace in an unstable world, honor the work of evacuees in the reconstruction of Finland, and maintain historical knowledge about Finland's wars and the evacuees who left their homes due to wars for future generations.

An unofficial evacuee flag-raising day has been celebrated since 2025 at the initiative of the Karelian Federation. Riihimäki also raised the flag last year.
