Residents can report accessibility issues via the Crowdsorsa mobile game starting Monday, October 13, 2025. Residents have the opportunity to earn one euro for a property that needs significant accessibility improvement. Riihimäki will use the feedback to develop its urban environment.
The land areas and public buildings of the city of Riihimäki will become a playground on October 13th, when the crowdsourcing of accessibility feedback begins. Anyone can participate in the task by downloading the free Crowdsorsa mobile application to their smartphone. A one euro reward will be paid for each first reported object after quality management approval.
– In the task, players report the accessibility problems they have noticed by taking a photo of them with the Crowdsorsa app and writing their feedback as an attachment to the photo. In order to receive a reward, the accessibility of the reported object must significantly improve, says Juhani Poutanen, Marketing Director at Crowdsorsa.
The Accessibility Feedback Channel game is running in Riihimäki until mid-January. A total of 500 euros is up for grabs. Reported items appear as icons on the Crowdsorsa application map, making it easy for other users to see where feedback has already been given.
This is the first time that information on the accessibility of the urban environment has been collected on such a large scale with the help of residents. Crowdsorsa and Riesa Consultative Oy have previously collaborated on accessibility-related data collections, for example, assessments of bus stops and road crossings. In Riihimäki, feedback can now be provided on any public object or land area in the city.
– We hope to receive a wide range of feedback. The feedback received will be used in improvement projects for various sites. The city strives to promote accessibility, and feedback from users of public areas and buildings is of paramount importance. With traditional surveys, the number of responses has generally been lower than expected, says the city's Planning Manager Riikka Tuomi.
The accessibility feedback channel uses the game to bring accessibility issues that hinder residents' everyday lives to the city's use quickly and easily.
– The accessibility feedback channel lowers the threshold for city residents to provide feedback. Hopefully, people who would not necessarily traditionally provide feedback will also end up playing the game. City residents know their everyday lives and the challenges they face best, so this is a great opportunity to influence their environment and everyone's smooth movement, encourages Atso Ahonen, accessibility expert at Riesa Consultative Oy.
Accessibility problems can include, for example, problems with road crossing reliefs, potholes in the road (larger than A4 size), raised or sunken manhole covers, accessibility challenges at stops, lack of signage for parking spaces intended for people with disabilities, placement of pedestrian crossing buttons, construction site-specific solutions, and risks of falls and collisions.
