Riihimäki develops its municipal services together with other municipalities
Riihimäki, Hämeenlinna, Vaasa, Kristiinankaupunki and Pedersöre have received funding from the Ministry of Finance for a joint project, the goal of which is to permanently improve municipal services and operating methods to be more resident-oriented than before.
The ministry has granted the project Open municipality: strategic renewal of operations with the resident at the center of a good one million euros in funding for the period between January of this year and October of next year.
"We start experiments and encourage and train employees to develop their own work together with the residents," says Riihimäki city's financial and administrative director Kari Ora.
Participating municipalities aim for permanent operational method reforms and customer-oriented service production. Digitization is promoted especially in the provision of services in the education and welfare sectors, participation and enabling remote work. At the same time, the opportunities for children and young people to participate in decisions concerning them are improved.
"We create models and electronic work tools for open and inclusive work, and we change the operating culture so that as many people as possible can work openly," says Ora.
The purpose of the government grants awarded by the ministry is to support digitalization, which will reform the operating methods of municipalities and customer orientation and generate possible cost savings. Grants intended for municipalities were awarded to a total of 29 projects, most of which are cooperation projects between municipalities.
