The Riihimäki Hehkuu light event offers the townspeople unforgettable experiences during Christmas and New Year. The event consists of two light works and they will be on display at different times from 15.12.2023 December 7.1.2024 to XNUMX January XNUMX.
Alexander Reichstein's installation Time to Fly can be seen in Rautatiepuisto from Friday 15.12. from 18 pm (Öllerinkatu 3, 11130 Riihimäki). Dreamlike sleeping human figures fly high above the museum grounds.
"We dream while we sleep. Sometimes we fly in our sleep. It is fascinating how the body of a sleeping person often resembles someone who is actually flying, jumping, running and climbing. My sculptures depict various sleeping people, men, women and children, lying on pillows, sometimes under blankets from their beds, floating above us. The installation is accompanied by quiet sleepy music, which is excerpts from Erik Satie's work Gnossiennes", Alexander Reichstein describes his work Time to Fly.
Voimalan Valo, produced by Sampo Manninen, can be experienced from 22.12.2023 to 6.1.2024 on the station side of Voimala (Paloheimonkatu 2, 11130 Riihimäki).
"When I was asked how I would light Voimala, I immediately remembered the wonderful rows of windows that are in both the generator room and the boiler room. I remembered how wonderfully the light comes in through those already slightly broken windows and at the same time my intuition said that the light must now come from the inside out. In my mind, I saw rays of light shining from within, illuminating the surrounding city and sky, in vivid, rhythmic and at the same time somewhat mysterious patterns and shapes. Indeed, the light must come from within, both symbolically and concretely. That's exactly the kind of message that suits this time," says Sampo Manninen from Pixoi Oy, the producer of the light work.
"It is important for each of us to find our own inner light, it helps us see through superficial things and stay in our own strength and wisdom. The Voimalan Valo light art piece reminds us of this and tunes us to see our Voimala with new eyes," sums up Sampo Manninen.
Performances of the Voimala valo artwork daily from 22.12.2023 to 06.01.2024 at 18.05, 19.05, 20.05 and 21.05. The duration of the performance is 5 minutes, during which music from the piece is also heard and a little fog from the smoke machine spreads into the environment.
Voimala's light work is made in cooperation with the property owner YIT and the city of Riihimäki, and Visual45 is responsible for its lighting and Jari Ikonen is responsible for finishing the soundtrack.
