The city of Riihimäki has prepared the organization of the 2027 Housing Fair with the Suomen Asuntomessut Cooperative.

The city and the Suomen Asuntomessut have held negotiations on an agreement detailing the implementation of the fair. However, no agreement has been reached on the content of the agreement.

"We want to develop Riihimäki's reputation as an affordable and easily commuted cultural city in the middle of the employment centers of Southern Finland. The decision to withdraw from the fair project was the result of long consideration. The total costs of the project became too high, so the city of Riihimäki decided to withdraw from the project," says city manager Jouni Eho.

The planning of Kokonharju continues

The city of Riihimäki continues planning the municipal engineering of Kokonharju, which is intended to be the main fair area, despite the end of the fair project. The Kokonharju area is currently undeveloped and mostly forested. In the future, Kokonharju will become a residential area close to nature with many small houses.

The Riihimäki city council approved Kokonharju's plan in May. The city will reevaluate the construction schedule in the area in the fall. Withdrawing from the fair project enables the construction of Kokonharju at a calmer pace.

Riihimäki's land supply is becoming more diverse

Preliminary construction is underway in Jokikylä, planned as an adjacent fairground. The construction of the residential areas of both Kokonharju and Jokikylä will diversify Riihimäki's land supply.

Kokonharju's new site plan allows for 55 single-family plots and 6 plots on which you can build small apartment buildings, terraced houses, urban small houses and detached houses. The first land transfer competition in the Jokikylä region is underway. More apartment building lots will be handed over from Jokikylä in the next few years.

In terms of calculations, Kokonharju's plan allows for about 640 new residents to the area, and Jokikylä's plan for about 750 residents.
