The people of Riihimäki voted for light balls for Temppelikatu

The voting for Temppelikatu's seasonal lighting has ended and the winner has been the option Nevsky, where each light pole has two light balls. This option received a total of 187 votes. There were 511 votes in total.

The competition for the winning position was extremely tight: the difference between the winner and the runner-up, Feona, was only 27 votes. The votes were distributed as follows:

The winning option brings harmony to the cityscape of Riihimäki, according to city gardener Päivi Sundman. “The Nevsky light balls have already delighted residents on Northern Asemakatu, and now they will also bring light and beauty to Temppelikatu,” she adds.

The city of Riihimäki put out a competition for the seasonal lighting of Temppelikatu, and the city's jury selected the best five out of fifteen plans to be voted on. The plans were selected based on their visual appeal and consideration of the cityscape. Residents had the opportunity to vote for their favorite for a week from September 30 to October 6, 2024 on Riihimäki's participation platform, which is known for participatory budgeting. All persons aged 12 and older registered in the town of Riihimäki had the right to vote.

Inclusion is one of the central themes of the strategy of the city of Riihimäki. The vote offered the townspeople the opportunity to have a tangible impact on the city's future appearance.

The purchase of seasonal lights is part of the Temppelikatu renovation and is financed from this year's municipal technology investment program. The goal is to have the new seasonal lighting installed on Temppelikatu by Christmas 2024.
