The Riihimäki City Board will discuss the project plan for the old town hall on Monday, April 28. The old town hall will be renovated and an accessible extension will be built before it is put into use.

The project plan estimates the construction costs at 3,6 million euros. This amount is 0,6 million euros more than the budget investment plan for 2025–2026.

According to the target schedule, the facilities would be completed in 2027.

The town hall will be renovated for use by the South Häme employment area.

The project plan to be considered by the City Board is based on a needs assessment approved by the City Board in December 2024. Based on the needs assessment, the old city hall will become the Riihimäki location of the South Häme employment area.

The old city hall is planned to house customer service facilities for the employment area. The aim is to renovate the building to meet the needs of the employment area, taking into account accessibility, health and safety, and the overall economics of the project. Only necessary changes will be made to the premises.

The building currently does not meet accessibility requirements. Before it can be used, the building must be expanded with an elevator section and a barrier-free entrance.

After renovation, the meeting room of the old city hall can also be used as a meeting place for the city council and government.

The City Board's decision concerns the approval of the project plan and the commencement of implementation planning. The decision is conditional until the City Council has approved the amendment to the service network decision regarding the location of the South Häme employment area's operations in the old City Hall.

The old town hall is located in the center of Riihimäki at Kalevankatu 1.

The old town hall was designed by architect Veli Valorinta and built in 1948.
