Riihimäki Sports Center has been closed for use on Tuesday, June 24th.

The building control of the City of Riihimäki has banned the use of the Sports Hall from Tuesday, June 24, 2025 until further notice. The Sports Hall is located at Pohjolankatu 6.

A serious structural defect has been detected in the load-bearing structures of the roof of the sports hall. One beam is in danger of collapsing. The beam in danger of collapsing is located in the sports hall.

The condition of the roof structures of the sports hall has been examined by an external consultant. The consultant is continuing the investigations. The beams are located inside the roof structures, so their examination will take some time.

"Once the scope of the project is clear, we will plan the necessary repairs and schedule. At the moment, we do not yet know when the Sports Hall will be safely available for use by city residents again," says Ari Mikkola, the developer responsible for the city's leisure center.

Currently, access to the interior of the building is completely prohibited.

Gyms, café and bowling alley closed

The ban on the use of the sports hall will affect the operation of the weight room and gyms, the café and the bowling alley during the summer. These are now closed. The gym's shifts had been moved to other facilities for the summer.

The city will provide information about the possibilities for activities in August and autumn when a complete picture of the scope and schedule of the situation is obtained.

The sports center can be opened once the structures have been repaired and made safe.
