Riihimäki's home yard competition starts again

In Riihimäki, the city's most beautiful home yard and the best nature yard are being searched again this summer.

The Riihimäki home yard competition is one of Finland's oldest continuously organized yard competitions. The competition has been organized regularly since 1959. Today, the competition is organized every two years.

Since 2020, the competition has also included an eco garden series. This year, the name of the series has been changed to Riihimäki nature park.

"The backyard committee thought that the term nature yard is more understandable and tells more about which things in that series are important," says the chairman of the backyard committee, city gardener Päivi Sundman.

In Riihimäki's Nature Garden 2024, for example, biodiversity has been taken into account by maintaining a meadow or meadow, utilized stormwater or recycled biowaste for garden plants. A nature garden can be an ornamental garden or a utility garden. At its best, it is cozy, personal and unique.

In the review of the traditional Most beautiful backyard 2024 series, the main attention is focused on the space distribution and functionality of the yard, the overall impression of the city, the surrounding environment and the pleasant street side view.

The judging panel will examine the yards in August 2024, and the awarded yards will be announced on Riihimäki Day, September 11, 2024. The winners will be notified personally.

Registration

All Riihimäki yards can participate in the competition: small houses, terraced houses, apartment buildings, public buildings (the city's properties have been frozen), balconies and holiday apartments. Register for the competition by filling out the form online or by letter. The registration period is July 26.6–August 31.7.2024, XNUMX.

The home garden committee evaluates the gardens registered in the competition and their maintenance methods between August 19 and 30.8. Based on the information provided by those who sent the form (and photos), the jury will pre-qualify the gardens, which will undergo a more detailed assessment visit.
