Riihimäki Circular Economy Week offers a wide range of information and events

Riihimäki's own Circular Economy Week will be celebrated for the fourth time from 7 to 13 April 2025. The city will organize events at its various locations during the theme week. The events are open to everyone and free of charge. The Circular Economy Week will highlight different aspects of the circular economy.

"With the Riihimäki Circular Economy Week, the many faces of the circular economy will become familiar to city residents. In Riihimäki, circular economy services can be utilized, for example, at the library, recycling center or at the depot sorting point. Many companies also offer circular economy services through repair and rental. The circular economy is about increasing the number of uses and extending the life cycle through maintenance and repair. Everyone can utilize it in their everyday lives and it can also save a lot of money," says environmental expert Jenni Takala.

RiiCycle will be performing in Riksula on Monday

The meeting place in Riksula will be visited by Pia Engström, Development Manager of the City of Riihimäki, at the Ikinuorten Senior Coffee on Monday, April 7th at 12.30:XNUMX. Engström will talk about Riihimäki's circular economy network, RiiCycle.

The meeting place's craft club accepts donations of yarn and craft supplies in the spirit of recycling. The meeting place is open Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 11 am and from 12 pm to 14 pm, and on Friday from 9 am to 11 am.

Shared spaces support sustainable development. Antoni's House, where Riksula is also located, offers its facilities for use by city residents, associations and organizations on weekday evenings and weekends. During autumn 2024, 38 different operators operated in the premises. 224 evenings or events open to everyone have been organized in the premises. Guided tours at the recycling center on Wednesdays

Bring items to the recycling center or make a discovery! During Circular Economy Week, the Riihimäki City Recycling Center store will have changing offers. Extend the life cycle of items and at the same time reduce the need to buy new items.

During Circular Economy Week, guided tours of the building's workspaces will be organized on Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. and 15 p.m. The store is open normally on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m., and on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. The recycling center is closed on weekends.

The recycling center is located at Sakonkatu 4.

Flea market and cutting exchange at the library on Saturday

The library program runs from Thursday to Saturday. The much-anticipated second-hand book sale will be held on the ground floor of the library. As a special feature on Saturday, there will be a flea market and a jigsaw and puzzle exchange point in the Samuli Paronen Hall from 10.00:14.45 to XNUMX:XNUMX. The library has two different recycling competitions, one for adults and one for children. You can also make bookmarks together as a family and explore the book exhibition.

Recycle textiles and hazardous waste at the depot recycling point

The city depot recycling point is open as usual during Circular Economy Week. You can bring household hazardous waste (formerly problematic waste), electrical and electronic waste, and metal scrap to the collection point free of charge. There is also a collection container for used textiles in the area, where you can bring clean and dry used textiles packed in a plastic bag.

Harjunrinne School learns about the circular economy through play

Sustainable development students at Häme University of Applied Sciences HAMK are implementing a circular economy game-based lesson for three teaching groups at Harjunrinne School. Schools can also use the lesson materials in their teaching later. The recycling center is offering players discount coupons for the store as prizes.

In primary schools, students conduct circular economy audits

During Circular Economy Week, audits will be organized in all comprehensive schools in Riihimäki, where students will be able to examine the implementation of the components of the circular economy in the school environment. The audits, led by teachers, record development needs and deviations, which will help schools develop their operations in a more environmentally responsible direction.

The circular economy refers to an economic system where raw materials and materials are kept in circulation, moving from owning to using, sharing, renting and recycling services, in which case valuable resources can be saved and environmental change and the waste problem can be curbed.
