The operation of Riihimäki recycling center has been growing for several years and the current year is becoming a record good one.

"The goals have been achieved both in the amount of goods and in sales. The rest of the year will improve the whole even more, and the current year will be the best in the recycling center's 33-year history by many measures," says Jyri Lindblom, work supervisor.

The recycling center receives many kinds of goods, the largest product groups of which are various household goods, books, household appliances, electrical appliances and furniture. There are plenty of buyers for them.

Only old books, poorly maintained modern furniture and other items in poor condition suffer from poor sales. The recycling center does not accept clothes and shoes. At the recycling center, we focus on the quality of the goods being sold being as good as possible. For this reason, among other things, the goods are cleaned and inspected before sale. Sometimes the goods are slightly refurbished.

Attention is also paid to good customer service and the presentation of goods.

"The price level is considered affordable. When the pricing is low, we are able to control the flow of goods and the circulation of goods. The increase in the number of customers and goods is partly explained by the fact that consumers are more responsible with their consumption and are well aware of the impact of their consumption on environmental issues," says Lindblom.

The number of people needing the collection and export service of goods from the recycling center and the customer base of coffee shop Kupla have also increased. Kahvila Kupla's salty and sweet delicacies are prepared in the recycling center's kitchen.

The recycling center has small-scale in-house production, the starting point of which is the innovative utilization of recycled materials. In addition, do-it-yourself items are weighed and packed for sale, for the joy of DIYers.

Lindblom praises the facilities of the recycling center for being functional and changing according to the seasonally changing demand for goods. It is easy to decorate the store's premises to make them comfortable.

It is not always possible to receive all the goods offered, because some of the goods offered are too weak. The recycling center also suffers from a lack of space from time to time.

The recycling center, which is part of the employment services of the city of Riihimäki, has five permanent employees, as well as approximately twenty-five subsidized employees and approximately the same number of probationers. Job descriptions are tailored individually for each employee. High-quality orientation, guidance and job coaching are part of the services. A job at a recycling center is indeed a path to the open labor market or education for many.

The recycling center operates at Sakonkatu 4 A. It is open Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fri from 10 am to 17 pm and Wed from 10 am to 18 pm.
