A new S-market is being built in the city center.

Osuuskauppa Hämeenmaa will next invest in the center of Riihimäki in the Kanta-Häme area. Hämeenmaa will build an S-market in the center of Riihimäki at Keskuskatu 15. The former Foorumi shopping center is currently empty at the address.

Hämeenmaa will demolish the current building on the Keskuskatu 15 plot and build an S-market in its place. The opening is planned for autumn 2027.

"This is long-awaited and very positive news for us. I would like to congratulate and thank Hämeenmaa for the investment decision. Hämeenmaa's investment strengthens the positive development that our city is currently experiencing," says Mayor Jouni Eho.

"A grocery store in the city center has long been a desire of residents. The development and attractiveness of the city center will receive a big boost with the new grocery store," says Planning Manager Niina Matkala.

According to the preliminary plan, the size of the new S-market is approximately 2,000 square meters. It will be the same size as the S-market Hirsimäki located in Riihimäki. The building is also planned to include a few commercial spaces for tenants. There will be parking spaces both in the courtyard and on the deck, which is accessible from Valtakärä Street.

"The S-market has been designed in collaboration with the Hämeenmaa region and the city to fit into the green cityscape. The green connection continues in the plan from the library to Lounaspuisto along Junailijankatu," says Planning Manager Matkala.

Hämeenmaan Kiinteistöt Oy, part of the Hämeenmaa Group, acquired the entire share capital of the company KOy Riihimäen Keskuskatu 15 in August 2025. Planning for the project began immediately after the transaction.
