The City of Riihimäki is offering employers free gig work hours this summer through the WorkPilots service. The aim is to support employment and first work experiences for Riihimäki residents aged 14–24.

WorkPilots is a digital platform where job seekers and employers meet. The city grants employers working hours in the form of points to cover the hiring of young people. The goal is to offer young people, especially those who do not yet have work experience, the opportunity to gain skills and make their first contacts in working life. Employers applying for subsidized hours can operate in Riihimäki, Janakkala, Loppi, Hausjärvi, Hämeenlinna or Hyvinkää, and the young people to be hired must permanently reside in Riihimäki.

The service begins with registering with WorkPilots either via the mobile app or website. After this, the organization creates a subscriber profile and submits an hourly subscription application to the city. Applications are processed once a week during the summer season from June 1 to September 20, except for week 31.

Once the application is approved, the organization can publish the gig ad on WorkPilots and select a suitable creator from the pool of applicants.

The City of Riihimäki sees WorkPilots as a way to lower the threshold for youth employment and support local vitality. At the same time, organizations will have a flexible way to handle short-term work assignments.

"We hope that the city-supported hours will encourage employers to also utilize the gigs at their own expense in the future," says Selja Vitikka-Yrjölä, Employment Manager of the City of Riihimäki.
