The city of Riihimäki and HAMK are creating a new robotics competence and innovation center
The city of Riihimäki and Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) are jointly developing a robotics competence and innovation center as part of Robotics Campus – Scale up! project. The city and HAMK invite growth companies in the region to develop a joint innovation ecosystem and utilize robotics. In Riihimäki, the education offered in basic education, secondary education and the university of applied sciences produces know-how for technology start-ups and already existing companies. During the project, a robotics city event combining art, culture and technology will be organized in Riihimäki.
"Cities compete for know-how, growth and investments. Increasing competition requires cooperation between companies, universities and the public sector. The city of Riihimäki has accepted the challenge and we want to be among the winners. In our strategy, we have made robotics expertise and business development one of our spearheads. In order to succeed, we need to create a sustainable and profitable environment for robotics collaboration. We believe that high-quality robotics training and a competitive robotics competence and innovation center will help us win the game," says Riihimäki City Manager Jouni Eho.
The goal of the project is to enhance regional and international cooperation and increase robotics education, know-how, research and innovations. The project consists of two entities. The first entity includes the entity concerning the development of future skills. In the project, continuing education for robotics teachers is piloted for European elementary school teachers, and an international project funding application for the development of robotics teaching is drafted.
In the city of Riihimäki, curriculum-based robotics education is already offered from early childhood education to the end of high school. Robotics studies can be continued at Riihimäki in both vocational and higher education. HAMK strengthens the international teaching offer of robotics education in the region.
"The city of Riihimäki has developed robotics training in an excellent and long-term way. We at HAMK believe in this consistent strategy and want to be involved in active development work from kindergartens to higher education. The cooperation offers enormous opportunities not only for our students but also for companies and the entire region," says Pertti Puusaari, rector of Häme University of Applied Sciences.
The project will receive support from the Häme Association from the Supporting sustainable growth and vitality of regions (AKKE) allocation of 173 euros. The project started on February 506, 1.2.2023 and will end on March 31.3.2024, XNUMX.
