Riemu Museums' summer showcases lace, costume pieces and works by two notable sculptors
Three different exhibitions have opened at Riemu Museums for the summer. The exhibitions will be on display until September 14, 2025.
The exhibition on the second floor of the museum, Lace's Long Journey from Antiquity to the Catwalks, mainly presents the history of European lace from the 1500th century to the present day. The exhibition shows that lace has always been fashionable and that it still appeals to many, from fashion designers to craft enthusiasts.
The exhibition presents lace not only by country but also by its intended use, for example in clothing, home textiles, jewelry and lace paintings. Most of the lace in the exhibition comes from the collection of curator and lace collector Marjatta Hietaniemi. The exhibition texts are written by Marjatta Hietaniemi.
The Two Paths exhibition features works by two notable sculptors, Radoslaw Gryta (1955–2023) and his son Ilmari Gryta (b. 1979). The exhibition on the first floor of the Riemu Museums features works from 1991–2025. The interpretations and texts related to the works in the exhibition have been written by Ilmari Gryta.
Fashion and textile designer Krista Virtanen's exhibition Kuluva aika (studio) brings together her clothing works that explore the themes of time, wear and tear, and renewal. The exhibition features both older and newer work. It offers insights into how time shapes both people and materials.
Krista Virtanen is a fashion and textile artist who seeks alternative solutions in the field of fashion. She works with biomaterials and natural dyes, exploring their possibilities in art and clothing.
