Riihimäki City Sports Center, together with Riihiladun, Riihimäki Kiista-Veikko, Riihimäki Kisko and Riihimäki Orienteering Club, is organizing the R-Ski Day on Saturday, February 28th from 10 am to 15 pm.

You can participate in R-skiing by skiing in the Suonummi and Vahteristo areas and in Riuta, depending on snow conditions. You can ski on the trails of your choice.

The event is subject to weather conditions. Sufficient snow cover is required for it to take place.

Participants are encouraged to share photos from the trails using the hashtag #RHiihto.

Hatlamminsuo and the Garrison

Firewood will be brought to the lean-to for self-made sausage roasting. There is a juice bar at the Tapiola hut.

The city has also built ski trails in the Garrison.

Vahteristo Park

There is a two-kilometer loop in Vahteristo (traditional and freestyle), from which it is also possible to move to the 10-kilometer loop in Suonummi, depending on the snow conditions.

Riihilatu runs a ski slope café in front of the container next to the Uhkola grill kiosk. The café serves juice, coffee, sausages and other delicacies. Riihilatu equipment is also on display for you to explore, such as snowshoes and sliding snowshoes. Cash and Mobile Pay are accepted as payment methods.

Riihimäki folk dancers will organize a national costume ski race in Vahteristo, with a mass start at 11 am.

Suonummi lodge

The 10-kilometer freestyle Suonummi loop starts from the Suonummi hut in the direction of Vahteristo. There is a possibility to continue on to the 2-kilometer freestyle loop, but the traditional four-hut loop is not in use due to the snow situation. A sled-based track has been driven to Oma-Kodi. Kiista-Veikot runs a ski slope café at the hut from 10 am to 15 pm.

Riutta

Depending on the snow conditions, the following departs from the Riuta snow cannon parking lot:

  • 7-kilometer Riuta connecting trail (traditional and free)
  • 1 kilometer snow cannon track (traditional and free)
  • There is also a children's sledding hill in Riuta.
  • Ski café 10 am–15 pm
  • The Riihimäki Orienteering Club's trail café serves in the parking lot of the snow cannon trail.

Dog skiing and sledding

A meeting for those who enjoy and are interested in dog skiing and sledding will be held at 2:00 PM on the Haapahuhta dog track. The track is behind the former Haapahuhta school, between the school and Lahdentie, in a field clearing. Arrive via the light traffic route leaving from the school building. The building's parking space can be used.

Welcome with or without a dog.

Try out Riihilattu's new Kickspark propellers, one of which the association also has dog-pulling equipment. The equipment is available for rent for your use later as well.

R-Forest ski trip

Sat 28.2 9am-12pm. Departure: Vahteristo parking area, in front of the equipment containers

Riihilatu organizes a forest skiing trip, where we ski for about three hours in the nearby forests and fields. The trip is suitable for regular fitness enthusiasts who have their own forest skis or snowshoes and have experience skiing with them. On the trip, you will enjoy the winter forest and field landscapes led by an instructor. About halfway through, we will have a picnic break, so please bring a suitable picnic lunch, such as a warm drink and other energy. On the trip, you will enjoy traditional skiing according to the traditional formula, enjoying the winter nature. If you do not have your own snowshoes, you can rent them from Riihilatu.

Equipment:

  • Clothing appropriate for the weather, avoid overdressing, bring a jacket and a spare pair of gloves
  • A backpack with enough water and energy. The hike takes about three hours.
  • Your own forest skis (please note the snow conditions, which may be poor in places). The organizer is not responsible for the equipment and any damage to it.
  • Non-chafing shoes suitable for bandages
  • Good and cheerful attitude

Change:

At Riihilatu, 4 snowshoes (2 x 149 cm and 2 x 129 cm) are available for rent for 5€/set, including poles. Normal winter outdoor shoes fit the bindings. Make sure to book with the instructor.
