Negotiations between parties on elected officials have ended.

43 members and their alternates have been elected to the Riihimäki City Council in the municipal elections for a four-year term starting on 2 June 2025. The political groups have held negotiations on the positions of elected officials based on the election results. The negotiations on the positions of elected officials by the political groups elected to the council ended on 29 May 2025.

The parties agreed on the following tasks for the council and city government:

• The chairman of the council will come from the National Coalition Party, the first vice-chairman from the Left Alliance, the second vice-chairman from the Social Democrats, and the third from the Greens.
• The chairman of the city council is a Social Democrat and the vice-chairman is a representative of the National Coalition Party.
• The city government will include four Social Democrats, three members of the National Coalition Party, two members of the Left Alliance, one Christian Democrat and one Finns Party member.

The parties agreed on the following regarding the tasks of the committees, the welfare department and the water supply company:

• The chairman of the Vitality Committee will come from the Social Democrats and the vice-chairman from the Coalition Party.
• The Technical Committee will be chaired by a representative of the National Coalition Party and the vice-chaired by a representative of the Left Alliance.
• The Education and Welfare Committee is chaired by a member of the Left Alliance and the vice-chair is a member of the National Coalition Party.
• The chairman of the Audit Board will be from the Greens and the vice-chairman from the Social Democrats.
• The chairman of the Welfare Division is a Social Democrat and the vice-chairman is a Christian Democrat.
• The chairman of the water utility company is a Social Democrat and the vice chairman is a Finns Party member.

The new council will make the final decision on the distribution of elected positions at its first meeting on June 9. At the first meeting of the council, the chair and vice-chairs of the council, the members of the city government and the committees and their divisions will be elected.

Early voting for the municipal elections took place in Finland at the beginning of April, with election day being April 13. In Riihimäki, 50,6 percent of those eligible to vote exercised their right to vote in the municipal elections.
