Construction work begins on Pohjoinen and Eteläinen Asemakatu and bus stop areas
The damage repairs to North and South Station Streets and the construction of the bus stops on South Station Streets and Paloheimonkatu will begin with the establishment of the construction site in the week beginning June 9, 2025. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2025.
The goal is a safer and more functional parking area
A new bus stop with waiting facilities will be built on Eteläinen Asemakatu, and the bus stop area on Paloheimonkatu will be expanded. The aim is to improve the usability and smoothness of public transport, especially around the station. Accessibility has been taken into account in the design.
Work will be carried out in phases with traffic
The construction work will be located on busy streets and main pedestrian and bicycle routes. The construction site will cause temporary traffic arrangements and route changes. Vehicle traffic may be closed between the roundabouts of Eteläinen and Pohjoinen Asemakatu from 9 June to 1 August 2025.
Complete street closures will be announced separately and will only be carried out in cases that are necessary for occupational safety. Access to the properties and emergency routes will be secured throughout the project.
Construction site safety and the environment are carefully considered
The safety of the project has been planned in accordance with the Government Decree. The work will partly take place alongside light traffic routes and public transport, so the protection and signage of the work areas will be done with particular care. Attention will also be paid to the cleanliness of the environment and dust control.
