In Riihimäki's elementary schools, many different open and free hobby groups will be operating this school year as well. There are a total of 1 different hobby groups for 9st-40th graders. Hobbies range from various sports to music, visual arts and cooking.
The hobby selection is formed according to the students' wishes and available resources. All elementary schools in Riihimäki conducted a hobby survey in January 2024. In the survey, children and young people were able to bring up their hobby wishes.
In the academic year 2024–2025, new hobbies will be organized according to the students' wishes, such as gymnastics, ball playing, ice hockey, figure skating and cheerleading. Familiar and popular hobbies from previous school years will also continue, such as filmmaking, band, bowling and board games.
Pupils are also allowed to participate in hobbies other than their own school.
Registration opens on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 17 p.m. Check out the selection of hobbies on the registration website.
The hobby season starts on Monday, September 9, 2024. You can participate in the hobby activity throughout the school year, if there is room in the group.

The aim of the Finnish model of hobby is to support the well-being of children and young people by enabling every child and young person to have a pleasant and free hobby during the school day.
Based on applications, the Ministry of Education and Culture grants special grants to municipalities to implement the Hobby Finland model. The goal is to instill the Finnish model of hobby as a permanent way of operating in the municipalities.
The target group of the hobbies are students in grades 1–9 of basic education. pupils.
