Peltosaari's local sports center Galaxi will be demolished and planning for a new park will begin
Galaxi, a local sports center next to the old demolished school in Peltosaari, will be demolished in the next few weeks.
"We have strived to keep Galaxia in safe operating condition, but the vandalism experienced by the sports facility's equipment has been so extensive that unfortunately it is not possible to renovate the sports facility to make it safe at a reasonable cost," says Sports Manager Markus Rantsi.
In the fall of 2024, the planning of a new park complex will begin in the area according to the general plan of the Riihimäki station area and the reference plans that specify it. The goal is that the Karlskoga playground and the Gus-Hrustalnijn park will form a unified whole.
Sports activities are also planned for Karlskoga park in addition to play equipment and sitting areas. In Karlskoga park, the aim is also to reserve space for the flooding of the Vantaanjoki, and in the design, special attention is paid to the delay and absorption of stormwater as efficiently as possible. A more detailed implementation schedule for the park has not yet been decided.
A new outdoor gym in the Peltosaari sports park
There is also a sports park in Peltosaari, which has been extensively invested in in recent years. About 200 meters away from Galaxi, which is being demolished, in the Peltosaari sports park, you can find sports venues for athletics, baseball, skating and ice sports.
As the newest function, high-quality David outdoor gym equipment has been installed at the south end of the athletics field. Similar equipment is familiar from the Keskusurheilupuisto's outdoor gym, which is in active use.
