The participatory budgeting idea search yielded great results: city residents submitted a total of 82 proposals.
"There were slightly more proposals than in recent years. Last year in the autumn we received 72 proposals for participatory budgeting. The 14 ideas proposed by the Riihimäki Children's Parliament made a great final push to this year's number," says Mira Ahjoniemi, project manager responsible for participatory budgeting.
Of the 82 proposals submitted, 76 exceeded the support threshold, meaning they received the support of at least 10 people. The residents' proposals include development ideas related to sports facilities, playgrounds, events, library services, seasonal city lighting, schools and youth activities.
Proposals that have exceeded the support threshold will now proceed to the evaluation phase for the office holders. The received proposals will be further developed into plans with the residents in an open workshop. The workshop will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 17–19 p.m. at Antonin talo (Öllerinkatu 3). The workshop is open to all residents, no registration required.
"Thank you to everyone who submitted an idea! The activity of the city's residents makes Riihimäki even more functional and vibrant," Ahjoniemi says.
You can view submitted ideas at osallistu.riihimaki.fi.
A vote on the projects to be implemented will be held in January 2026. The city will spend 100,000 euros to implement several different projects in 2026. Through the vote, residents will choose their favorites to be implemented.
