Home Builders' School continues at Riihimäki Adult Education Center

The spring 2025 home builder school is suitable for anyone who dreams of and plans to build or have their own house built. The home builder school will familiarize you with the procurement and bidding of a house package, energy solutions for a single-family home, and yard design and implementation.

The Home Builders School consists of three lectures, which will be held on May 7, May 14 and May 21. The Home Builders School is easy to attend, as the lectures are held online. The course costs 20 euros.

– We received good feedback from the home builder school organized in the fall and decided to organize a home builder school in the spring as well – with new themes. The home builder school serves people who dream of building a home in the future, says Riikka Uusikulk, Project Manager of the City of Riihimäki.

Purchasing a house package

The first session of the single-family home builder school provides tips on purchasing a house package. Most of the single-family homes built in Finland are delivered as house packages.

The home builder school will introduce you to how different house packages differ from each other and how to bid on a house package. During the evening, we will also consider what things should be taken into account when choosing a house package. Finally, we will learn about the types of agreements a resident enters into when purchasing a house package.

Energy solutions for single-family homes

The second lecture of the Home Builders' School is about energy solutions for single-family homes. During the evening, we will review what single-family home builders should know about energy-efficient heating and how renewable energy can be utilized in the heating, cooling and electricity consumption of single-family homes.

The home builder school also considers what kinds of things should be taken into account when choosing a heating system for a detached house and how to take into account energy savings in the long term, electricity consumption in housing, and the energy-efficient use of appliances.

During the evening, we will also hear about what carbon footprint and carbon handprint mean. Finally, we will get tips on where to find more information about energy solutions for single-family homes.

Advice on yard design and implementation

The third time we will learn about the design and implementation of a single-family home yard. The lecture will explain the benefits of yard design, how the yard design process progresses, and what to consider when designing a yard.

Participants in the home builder school will also receive tips on where the costs of building a yard arise and how they can be influenced. At the end of the course, we will go over the cardinal sins of a Finnish new house yard. At the end of the home builder school, you will receive tips on finding suitable partners, planning and implementing the yard.
