New students are accepted to the Music Institute in the order of registration.

Registration for new students to study basic art at the Riihimäki Music Institute opens on Saturday, April 11th at 11 am. Residents of the municipalities of Riihimäki, Loppi and Hausjärvi can apply for the course.

Applications for the music play school and open department studies also begin at the same time. There is no entrance exam to start studying music, but students are accepted in the order they register. Decisions on obtaining a student place will be announced to applicants in May.

Come and explore the instruments at MusaFestari

On Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10 am to 13 pm, it's MusaFest time again! Come and explore Riihimäki Music Institute (Valtakatu 10) and try out different instruments – everything from pianos to drums and violins to saxophones. During the day, there will also be music lessons, face painting and a café run by the Music Institute Support Association.

Admission to the event is free and it is part of the Children's Cultural Saturdays series of the City of Riihimäki's cultural department. Welcome!

Music studies are for all ages

People of all ages can study music, although the majority of students are children and young people. Basic art education studies progress from one level to the next and they include music education in a variety of ways in orchestras and ensembles, music visualization subjects and also playing lessons. Studies proceed according to the curriculum.

The open section of the music college is intended for people who only want to study in private lessons or, for example, try a certain instrument a few times. The students themselves pay for the study of the open department in full, while the municipalities and the state contribute to the costs of basic art education.
