The Riihimäki Art Museum and the Riihimäki City Museum have combined their premises and functions at the beginning of 2024 in the same premises at Temppelikatu 8. The City Museum has moved out of its old premises in Rautatienpuisto. Riemu Museum Center has been chosen as the name of the new museum center.

"The name is positive and easily fits the city's brand. In addition, the name includes the syllables associated with Riihimäki and museums. The name is suitable for increasing the city's visibility and impact," says Mika Herpiö, the director of vitality who made the decision on the name.

At the end of last year, there was a name competition on the Facebook page of both museums, in which you could submit your own proposal for the name of the museum center.

Riihimäki Art Museum and Riihimäki City Museum will remain, despite the merging of facilities, common functions and a common name, as separate museums, where the focus will be on each museum's own special contents in exhibition activities as well as collection and public work.

In addition to the unification of the facilities, the museums' social media channels and websites will also be combined during the spring of 2024. The museums also have a common ticket office, museum shop and workshop space.
