Impressions of Riihimäki have changed more positively in five years

Finns know Riihimäki better than five years ago. In addition, Finns have received a positive image of Riihimäki, especially through the news.

These facts are clear from the research that the city of Riihimäki did about the experiences and perceptions of Finns in relation to Riihimäki. The research was done by Taloustutkimus Oy. More than 1800 Finns responded to the survey.

The views of Riihimäki are more positive than before in all measured areas. The assessed areas include attractiveness as a day-visit destination, work, study and living city.

Riihimäki is easy to come to

Based on the answers, aspects related to its location and accessibility are often combined with Riihimäki. Riihimäki is perceived to be close to Helsinki with good public transport connections.

After the location, Riihimäki receives the next most positive evaluations in relation to new residents and in cultural investments and destinations.

The grades among all respondents have improved for all claims in five years. The same survey was carried out last time in 2019.

A positive picture of Riihimäki from the news

The biggest change in the survey came to the question "What kind of image has been conveyed to you about Riihimäki through the news?". In 2019, 28 percent of all respondents gave a positive or very positive assessment based on the news. In 2024, the same figure will be no less than 50 percent.

The attractiveness as a day-visit destination has increased

The attractiveness of Riihimäki as a day-visit destination for people living elsewhere has strengthened.

The Finnish Museum of Glass is still Riihimäki's best-known cultural and visitor destination, 71 percent of the respondents knew it. The second most famous destination was the International Sportmen's Fair, the third most famous cabin block/old glass factory. The fourth most famous destination was the Riihimäki Theater and the fifth the Hunting Museum of Finland.

Residents appreciate a smooth everyday life

Riihimäki residents' assessments of their hometown are more positive than before across the board.

Riihimäki receives good reviews from its own residents, for example regarding the management of everyday life and safety. The people of Riihimäki strongly feel that new residents are welcome in Riihimäki and that Riihimäki is a pioneering city in robotics.

Attractiveness as an area of development

Most critically, all respondents evaluated Riihimäki in terms of the vibrancy of the city centre, attractiveness and jobs. However, compared to the results of 2019, the images of Riihimäki have developed in a favorable direction in these areas as well.

Interest in moving in neighboring municipalities

Among those living elsewhere, the consideration of moving to Riihimäki has slightly increased. As a permanent hometown and also as a study town, Riihimäki especially attracts residents of neighboring municipalities. People over the age of 50 are especially interested in moving.

In addition to residents of neighboring municipalities, people who live outside the capital region of Uusimaa and those who live in the Häme region could consider moving to Riihimäki. Moving to Riihimäki could be one future option, especially for returnees.

The survey was conducted as an electronic survey from June 24 to August 16, 2024. More than 1 people responded to the survey, of which about a third, were from Riihimäki. The respondents were between 800 and 620 years old.

The survey was conducted last time and also for the first time in the spring of 2019. The survey included the same areas and questions.
