Fire at Mäkikuja Family Support Center this morning – no injuries

A fire broke out in the resident's room of the Mäkikuja Family Support Center in Riihimäki on the morning of Tuesday, November 11, 2025. The unit is part of the wellbeing services county Oma Häme in Riihimäki.

The fire was confined to one resident's room and the automatic extinguishing system quickly extinguished the fire. There were no injuries. The entire unit was quickly evacuated. The fire department arrived quickly and declared the fire extinguished, after which the premises were partially reopened.

Part of the unit is out of service due to smoke and surface damage, but residents' services are being provided as normal. Residents and employees have been offered crisis assistance.

The City of Riihimäki owns the Mäkikuja property, and one of the special classes at Harjunrinne School operates in the premises. The aim is to continue teaching as normal tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12th.
