The Riihimäki Upper Secondary School dining hall will start serving leftover food from high school students' lunch to all city residents starting Monday, September 1. The meal will be offered at a low price of four euros.

Lunch includes a main course, salad, milk and water, as well as crispbread and spread.

The City and Palmia Oy want to reduce the climate impact of dining with the Food Waste Minimization program. Food waste supports the goals of the city's environmental policy and provides an opportunity for affordable, nutritious meals.

The food waste campaign will last until the end of the high school autumn semester, i.e. Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Bring cash with you

Leftover lunch is sold after the upper secondary school students eat on weekdays between 12:45 and 1:00 p.m. You can eat in the cafeteria in peace. There is no possibility to pick up food.

Lunch can only be paid for in cash, preferably in small bills (four euros), as there is no payment terminal in the high school dining room.

The entrance to the dining hall is located at the main door on the Koulukatu side of the upper secondary school (Koulukatu 5). If there is a green sign on the door, there is food left. If there is a red sign on the door, there is no more food available that day.
